Although such a society sounds far-fetched, it is only through the work of dedicated individuals and the contributions of many others that artistic achievement is nurtured and developed. Without such dedication and contribution, the cultureless society becomes a reality.
VM Productions is dedicated to the art of independent filmmaking. We are developing and producing quality films based on original stories and masterpieces of the world’s literature dealing with a variety of contemporary issues often neglected by the mainstream cinema (both studios and independents).
We admire the great artists of all times. The complexity of their existence and the discoveries they made help humanity to move forward toward a deeper understanding of life, death, coexistence, and peace; they serve as a key source of our inspiration.
VM Productions began producing under the auspices of the New Playwrights Foundation(NPF),a forty-three year old non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of writers, filmmakers, and video artists. During this period, VM Productions produced a number of documentaries, videos, and shorts as well as the feature film
"Shades of Day" -the first chapter in its ambitious
LOS ANGELES-DOSTOEVSKY Project. "Shades of Day" received critical acclaim and was selected by Rutgers University professor Gerald Pirog for his course in cinema along with select films by Bertolucci, Kurosawa, Bresson, Scorsese, Shrader, and Von Sternberg.

was successfully screened on a number of the
international film festivals and became the winner
of Moscow International Festival of Detective Films
in April 2013 (www.detectivefest.ru).
With its next film, Notes from the New World (the
winner of the number of the international awards -www.notesthemovie.com), VM Productions has spread its wings and entered a new era as a for-profit company. But it regards its collaboration with NPF with appreciation and departs with a hard-won understanding of independent, artistic filmmaking.

PROJECT, beginning with
the completion of the first phase of "Dostoevsky-LA".
"Dostoevsky-LA"
is committed to cinematic
adaptations of three masterpieces by
Fyodor Dostoevsky,
a writer whose psychological penetration into the
deepest recesses of the human heart had a profound
influence on 20th century culture. In transporting
the essential elements of Dostoevsky's works from
19th century Russia to modern-day Los Angeles, we
aim to underscore the universality of the great
writer’s tales as well as commonalities of the human
experience, its values and issues.
As mentioned
above, the first
two films of this Project - the award winning features
Shades of Day
and Notes From The New World, are already
completed. "Shades of Day" represents a contemporary
envisioning of the short novel
White Nights,
one of the greatest love stories ever written while
"Notes From The New World"
is based on one of the most profound and prophetic
works of the world literature.
The two accompanying films in the trilogy
"Crime
and Punishment,LA"
and
"Idiot,LA"(the
script received the grant from Warner Bros Fund)
are currently in development. Once completed, the
Project and accompanying educational materials will
constitute a bona fide cultural event and catalyst
for artistic truth by presenting a classic author to
an entirely new generation in a fresh and exciting
form.
